This past weekend the Family Research Council had their 2006 "Value Voters" summit in Washington DC. It attracted some high profile neocons such as Sen. Rick Santorum and Focus on the Family's James Dobson. Their objective clearly outlined in a press release from FRC's Tony Perkins was this:
This conference in September will be a celebration of our victories and a strategy ensuring that values issues are high on the agenda for the upcoming elections. The nation saw two years ago what value voters can do at the voting booth. The past few weeks showed results. Now, we must continue the momentum behind this nation's strongest movement, Values Voters."
It's clear that these are not the same values that are shared by my democratic brethren. It's time we redefined values and take "value voters" away from them.
