Today, I wait.
As previously noted, I have been unemployed for going on 2 years. this past week I landed an interview. I've sent out thousands of resumes. In two years, I have had a grand total of four interviews. In two years...FOUR interviews, none of which yielded a job. My fate is in the hands of a total stranger. So I wait. I wait for a Job that will give me money, benefits and piece of mind.
One of the major perks of this job is the benefits. Right now, my family can't afford healthcare. I am the daughter of a breast cancer survivor and I need to get a mammogram every year....so I can make certain that I catch anything before it happens. I've looked for any way I could get this done, but because I am under 45, I can't get that mammogram for free. I barely have enough cash to afford my home, let alone get a mammogram.
So, all this hubbub surrounding healthcare strikes a chord. The republicans and their mindless followers are hell bent on repealing this piece of legislation. They have made this very clear. They say it's "job Killing". I can assure you, however, this will be the last time you hear them talk about jobs in any way.
In all reality, we know that this is simple grandstanding. It's a sideshow for all their people so come 2012, they can mobilize their base with the meme "Look what we tried to do, but those evil, nasty job killing liberals wouldn't repeal it!!! They ruined the economy!!!!!"
I love to engage in debate. It's wonderful to have intellectual conversations with my friends, regardless of red or blue. However, It's when I am faced with comments like these that I fear for our country. A little exchange between myself and a "Friend of a Friend" on FB
ME and what do you think should happen to people like My family, who has no access to affordable healthcare? 4 hours ago · Like ME I believe that is what we call....death panels 3 hours ago · Like Obvious GOP Supporter: r Life isn't meant for everything to be perfectly equal.....my family struggles with healthcare and my daughter is medically ill and has over 10 doctors.....you deal with it. 3 hours ago · Like Obvious GOP Supporter: I think Obama care is garbage 3 hours ago · Like ME I see that you do. I would certainly never hope that you lose your healthcare and something awful happened because someone lost their job or something out of their control. i suspect that if you were in such a position, you would do anything you could...including applying for medicaid to save your daughter's life. 3 hours ago · Like Obvious GOP Supporter: Honey I have lost my job and let me tell you I have been on the brink of homelessness but Obama Care is garbage and not the answer :) 3 hours ago · Like ME What is your suggestion? I'm just curious as to what you'd suggest. 3 hours ago · Like Obvious GOP Supporter: at work that will take time I will reply when im not at work I can only make quick comments 3 hours ago · Like ME Thanks. I'm not trying to be adversarial, just no one ever gives me suggestions on any other options.
I suspect that I won't hear anything, and that is OK, because there isn't anything. They want the system to stay the same because the insurance companies are always the winners. Insurance companies are monsters of money and will do anything to stay that way.
So, I wait. I send out resumes, hoping that someone will be kind enough to select me to become employed. So that I can "Deal with it"
